Dr Davide Deganello is PI of the Single Micron Laser Induced Forward Transfer (SIMLIFT) project, which aims to be a transformative development of the technology, overcoming current limits and refining its resolution to a new reliable level.

Dr Deganello is an Associate Professor in the College of Engineering, Swansea University. Davide is deputy director at the Welsh Centre for Printing and Coating.

Davide graduated in Mechanical Engineering at Padova University (Italy, 2003), and completed his Engineering PhD at Swansea University (UK, 2008) on modelling of gravure printing, going on to conduct research for Fast2light, a FP7 project dedicated to the development of roll-to-roll OLEDs technologies.

Current research interest include advanced manufacturing by functional printing and additive processing for energy storage, electronic and biomedical applications; as well as the study of underlining complex fluids rheology, and CFD modelling. Davide was awarded an EPSRC grant for advanced large-scale energy storage: secondary batteries with seawater as open self-replenishing cathode. Further recent projects include an EPSRC first grant on extensional flows for roll-to-roll printing. Davide was also investigator on the HaRFest project, an Innovate UK co-funded project, developed in collaboration with PragmatIC, CPI, Cambridge University and EPSRC CIMLAE; the project is aimed to investigate scale production of energy harvesting modules.

Davide’s research has led to patents and a number of publications in leading international journals. Davide is a chartered engineer for the Italian Engineering Association and committee member for the IOP Printing and Graphics science group, he is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
